Hi Lea!Thank you so much for being here on K-Books today.
1. When did you first discover that you wanted to be a writer?
When I became a mother. I’ve always considered myself a creative person, but I can’t draw worth a flip. So, when I started staying at home with my kids, I needed a creative outlet. I gave it a shot years ago when I feel in love with historical romance novels, but never finished. When I started reading more YA and discovered how awesome it was, that’s when I really put my mind to it.

2. Your book is in the YA Contemporary genre. Did you always want to write in this genre?
I hadn’t read a lot of YA contemporary growing up. My first completed novel was actually a YA paranormal, but I absolutely love teenage romantic comedy movies. So I decided to try my hand at something along those lines. I’m so glad I did!

3. What genre book do you enjoy reading?
I’ll read anything! Paranormal, epic fantasy, contemp, historical romances, horror, classics… You name it, I’ll try it!

4. Do you have any authors that you look up to or that inspire you?
So many! John Green, Stephanie Perkins, R.J. Anderson, Neil Gaiman. But I think my favorite and most inspiring is J.K. Rowling. I know, that’s a pretty generic answer, but my love for the Harry Potter series knows no bounds.

5. Your book The Summer I Became A Nerd is soon to be released. What was the inspiration behind that story?
I just wanted to write something that would be fun for me personally. I wanted to write about something I love. “Comic books” was the first thing that popped into my head and I thought, “Perfect!”

6. How do you feel about unleashing this story into the world?
I have so many feelings about this whole experience. I’m nervous as all get-out. I’m scared, too. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen. But most of all, I think I’m just excited!

7. Do you take any personal experiences and adapt them into your writing?
All… the… time… And not just my own. If a friend of mine talks about a unique experience or idea, I always say, “Do you mind if I use that in a book one day?” I try to soak up inspiration whenever I can get it.

8. Are there any particular scenes that you enjoy writing more than others?
It’s not so much particular scenes as it is particular characters. I just love writing characters. I get really excited when I know a specific character is going to be in a scene.

9. And finally what can we expect to see from you in the future?
Hopefully, you’ll see a lot more from me! I have a lot of different stories in the works and I’m enjoying every minute!

Oh. My. Goodness! I was so note prepared for the awesomeness of this book! I have to just give a massive thank you to Templar Publishing for introducing me to this book as if it wasn't for them I would not even know about this one. I received their 2013 book catalogue and while flicking through saw this and thought OMG dystopia... I love dystopia! So i requested it! All I can say is that I thought I had read great dystopia... until I read this one! This one was freaking phenomenal and just blew all the others out of the window. The Taking is quite possibly the best dystopia I have ever read in my life.

All Cia has ever wanted is to be chosen for The Testing. When she is chosen she is delighted and is ready to leave her home and her family behind to go through The Testing to become one of the leaders. But is everything as it seems? The more Cia goes through The Testing the more she realises that things aren't quite right. Is The Testing really a way to choose leaders or something darker? And what about those who don't make it through? Cia is determined to find out!

Oh. My. GOD! I just seriously can't say anything else. Just thinking back over what happened in this book it gives me shivers it was THAT good! I loved every single second of it! I am officially converted into a Joelle obsessive fan! She is just fantastic and is without a doubt one of the best authors I have ever read! Before this book I had never heard of her but I am a fan... for life! Her story-telling skills are just phenomenal! I seriously could not put this book down. Her writing completely draws you in from the first page and does not let you go until you've read the last page and are left reeling demanding more. I read the prequel The Testing Guide before this and thought it was interesting. I couldn't wait to read The Testing to find out what happened afterwards. But I was not expecting the epic awesomeness that this book was. It is seriously unputdownable I cannot praise it enough! It is a must-read.

Cia is one of the best heroines of a book I have ever read about in my life. Not only is she totally kick-ass but she is crazy smart too! I just loved her throughout the entirety of this book! She is just fantastic and I can't praise this character enough. She will do anything for her family and for the ones she cares about and she will use her smarts to do it. I love seeing a character like Cia. She is just the best!

There are seriously no words I could ever say that would do this book justice! It's just so epically phenomenal and unputdownable it's something you have to experience for yourself. To me this is one of those very rare books or series that you come across and want nothing more than to shout from the rooftops and yell that everyone just must read this book like right now! It is possibly the best YA dystopia I have ever read (and I have read A LOT). I cannot praise this book and Joelle enough. I just love this book so much I want to read it over and over again. It gives me that feeling where you just wanna hug the book forever because you just loved it that much!

The ending was perfect and literally left my with my jaw on the floor dying to get my hands on the next one. It was the perfect ending to the perfect book and all I can really say is that you 100% do not want to miss out on this one. It is a must-read for everyone. If you love dystopia books then this one is not to be missed, if you don't really read dystopia... you still MUST read it because they book literally has everything you could possibly want. A kick-ass heroine, a swoon-worthy boy, love, action, deception... EVERYTHING!

Hey Guys,
So this is late going up but last week was crazy busy and better late than never huh?
I did a whole lot better in April, probably due to my three weeks Easter Break from University. I managed to read a total 14 Books! WOOP! That is significantly better than March's 2 books! You know what that means... I can do my Top 3 again! Woop!

Like a mad doctor, Voltaire has Frankensteined together elements of Evil Dead, The Breakfast Club, Poltergeist, and This is Spinal Tap to create a creature feature that will have you laughing out loud when you're not glancing nervously over your shoulder.

There are no words to explain just how excited I was when I heard about this book. I instantly wanted to read it because of the publisher it was coming from. The book from Spence City, the new imprint from the best publisher in the world Spencer Hill Press. I will admit that I had never really come across Voltaire before. I had heard his name around the web and stuff but didn't really know who he was and what he did. Let me say that now I am a fully converted fan. He is seriously one of the coolest, most hilarious people I have ever come across. I have so much love for him and his book.

I didn't really know what to expect when I started to read Call of the Jersey Devil but I was lucky enough to hear Voltaire read the first 50 pages of the book at his first ever UK reading and it was just epically awesome. Voltaire's writing style is so different to any of the narratives that I have read before and that's what made me love it. It made the book refreshing and is one of the great things about it. Voltaire did an epically fantastic job of world building in this book. The amount of depth into the backstory was brilliant and I loved it. I had never really heard any of the legends of the Jersey Devil with me being in the UK and all so to hear the back story and just the dialogue between the characters when they are joking about the legends was awesome. It really gave me a sense of the legends about it and prepared me for the coming events in the book and it was all down to Voltaire's fantastic writing.

The characters in this book are seriously some of the most awesome characters I have ever read about. I won't go through all the main characters as I usually do as it would make this review enormous. The Mall Rats are just so incredible and they made me laugh so much... particularly Alistair. He is one of those characters that is crazy and insane and if he were real you would completely be backing away slowly which thinking 'what a weirdo' but he is freaking hilarious and had me laughing out loud so many times in this book. Villy Bats is epically awesome and I completely pictured Voltaire himself as Villy when reading. There are many similarities between them, including their epic coolness. I love him but Villy is way more of an ass than Voltaire is.

Call of the Jersey Devil was such a fantastic book and I loved every second of it. I loved the horror/paranormal in there when we came to face the 'legend'. I loved the characters and how they reacted to everything and I loved Voltaire's writing. It was just genuinelly fantastic. I could not put this book down. The only problem I had with the book, which is minor and tiny compared to how much I loved it, is that the beginning of the book was a little bit slow. I completely understand why it was as there was so much world building and history of the Jersey Devil needed but for me it seemed like it just took to long to get to the point where the Jersey Devil was introduced. I mean the Jersey Devil is in the title you know it's going to come into it and it just took a tad too long to get to that point.

Call of the Jersey Devil is a fantastic book that will have you laughing so hard you are in stitches and holding your sides from laughing so much. It was such a fantastic start to the epicness of SHP's new imprint Spence City and it has converted me into such a huge Voltaire fan. I will be looking out for any other books that he may be writing. I can't wait to read other things by Voltaire. He is awesome and I loved every moment of Call of the Jersey Devil. It's a fantastic read that you don't want to miss out on.
